Meet the Mr Costa Rica 2010 Finalists: David Jupiter

Mr. Costa Rica Sims 2010 Finalists

Top row from left to right: Apollo Call, Caine Elcano, David Jupiter, & Gin Zaks.

Bottom row from left to right: Jaymz Pearl, Seth Diabolito, Todd Anton & Trevor Spore.

David Jupiter is a nice guy. I mean a really nice guy. He's talented, creative, he's adventurous, good looking and is alive with energy. He's also had the fortune to have lived in Costa Rica when he was a child attending school.

"I searched for Costa Rica my second day here, which was the day I learned to seach LOL! I wanted to explore a childhood memmory from my years of living and schooling in San Jose, Costa Rica. I wanted to see what virtual world may exsit to revisit some of my dearest memories. I landed at Isla Chira and now I proudly call Costa Rica home."

While many of us fully enjoy all the benefits of living in the virtual Costa Rica, only some have visited the real thing and experienced the rich culture for themselves. David has nothing but praise for the country and its people.

"Costa Rica is quite probably one of the most beautiful countries on the Earth. Apart from its natural beauty, there is a very rich cultural vibrance and passionate people in general. It is a nation I compare to Switzerland in many ways, yet it has such a natural, clean and healthy aura. It truly is a gem of the Earth. What we see here in Giancarlo's Costa Rica from the jungles to the volcanos and mountains, and breath taking oceans, it's all as the real Costa Rica is. It's an experience I think everyone that can should come enjoy. I remember the festivals and the history of Costa Rica from the ox carts to the museums and shops from around the world. It really is a truly amazing country."

The ox carts! Upon moving to Costa Rica myself I received a welcome package that had an ox cart. David elaborates on the history behind those.

"Those ox carts! I love them! The ox symbolizes the labor of the people. It is actually one of Costa Rican National symbols. Traditionally, it embodies the heart of the labor of the people and the tradition of excellence and service. To me it shows the heart of a wonderful people. It's decorated in bright colors and I think they look great in the gardens here."

All this time spent in Costa Rica, I ask him if he is fluent in the language.

"Yes I do. Sadly my years out of Costa Rica and Colombia have removed me from the need to speak spanish. I could use a brush up as well. However I do always enjoy every chance I get to speak what was my first language. Sí. Hablo español y tengo gusto de hablar español mientras que encuentro a gente aquí en Costa Rica. Meaning, I always enjoy speaking spanish to the people I meet here in Costa Rica."

I'm sure David will get all the practice he needs if he wins this pageant. His hobbies are vast. It was one such hobby that brought him to Second Life™ in the first place. Building computers.

"I found Second Life™ searching for a quick download to test the graphics performance of a computer system I had built. I downloaded Phil's program to test and walla! I found this metaverse. I've enjoyed system building both for myself and clients for seven years now, it's a hobby for me personally that I enjoy. I build graphics machines for my real life photography work and it seems to trickle into the gaming aplications as well which naturally has made Second Life™ a more beautiful experience for me."

Of course you know I have to ask him if I can bend his ear when I start to build my own machine.

"I'd be glad to assist! Building one's own system can be fun as well as challenging to race the ever changing tech market, however, I seem to always save more as well as have a machine that can handle the load. It's a very rewarding hobby."

Second Life™ was David's first experience besides FPS game servers, such as Call of Duty, Quake etc, so he wasn't sure what to expect.

"I had ideas of 'oh this is just another game'. Soon after I landed at Help people Institute I was in awe of the creativity that surrounded me and the amazingly talented people that create our virtual  world. I was a bit leary at first, and once I met the people here I was hooked my first day!"

A photographer and graphic designer in real life, David is enjoying bringing his creativity to the metaverse of Second Life™.

"I've been able to bring my skills here to Second Life™, working with friends and other business persons to develop their images as well as real life websites. It's been very exciting to see these real life business ventures grow here. It is not only a job, I really enjoy it. It's also another hobby of mine. What can I say? I get paid to play. Works for me. LOL! I love it!"

David is also developing his building skills, working with sculpties, the prims that have really changed the way we experience builds in Second Life™.

"I like to build. I've enjoyed some classes as well as a few projects on my own, like a bucket turned into a handy hat. I really like what sculpties do. It's a wonderful way to build. I got to try my hand at them and found it very basic point to point building."

With the many tools out there for sculpties, David fancies working with Sculpt Studio, a tool he is really enjoying.

"The one I am most familiar with 'Sculpt Studio', a very good tool that allows you to manipulate the curve of a surface in wireframe and texture it."

I blink and get a not so bright look on my face. David explains it for the rest of us mere mortals.

"I mean, it lets us shape a prim to any point in world we want to. This tool can be used in world as well as out of world. Textures known as Maps for these are actually loaded up to a website and brought in world."

That sounds so technical.

Finalist David Jupiter

"Haha! Perhaps it is and ya know what? It's actually quite easy to do to make things here and out of world and create your vision for the world to see. There's just no end to the posibilities. I love it!"

I'll file this under 'To follow up' for my poor brain. I ask him how he got involved with the Mr. Costa Rica Sims pageant as so many of the others seem to have been talked into entering by friends and/or spouses.

"Maybe encouraged. LOL! I saw the contest information and thought immediately that participatiing in anything promoting these sims and partners was something I would love to do. Now walking a runway, that was definitely a new concept for me. I was approached and asked to participate by several dear friends and that was it. My mind was made up to give this a try. I wanted to get involved."

Ah yes, the runway, the coaching. While it may be a new concept for him, I've no doubt he will put in 1000 percent effort as he does with everything else.

"I had a ball at rehearsal and all the contestants are wonderful even as I tromped past my prompt at times or missed a cue we all had fun and gave it our best to bring a good show. I'm really enjoying the process and working with everyone involed. I think it's fun!"

If you live close to any of the waterways of Costa Rica, there's a high probability that you'll see David rowing by. And yes, he'll give you a shout out.

"Sailing here is huge! I get to fly from time to time as well and I meet the best people just enjoying the sights here and activities. I do get out and surf with my friends and we always have a blast! I think this is a good opportunity to graciously apologize for any of my crash landings! All I can say to that is I'm always learning. Seriously, I love the activities here, and I use that play time to think, to relax from my real life projects; it's perfect! I just discovered Kayaking. Man, what a hoot! Awesome way to tour the sims. My friend Coca and I took the waterways up North from the Southern Sims. It was so beautiful! I paused to view monkeys and all the many other little hidden treasures around here. It was amazing!"

Well I seriously doubt anyone in their right mind is going to be upset with a hunk like David dropping accidentally on their land as he sky dives. Just invite him in and fix him something to eat. Hot men falling from skies? I won't be one to complain.

Join me for my last two interviews with remaining finalists Todd Anton and Jaymz Pearl. And remember you have until March 15th to vote for your favorite contestant at the Costa Rica sims website. One vote per person per day.
