On Saturday, March 14th, the Costa Rica Sims Estate sponsored the Second Life Surfing Association’s (SLSA) second competition of the 2009 Season 1.  The Costa Rica Sims Shortboard Pro Surf In was held on Playa Santa Teresa (Pacifico Norte 1) with 35 surfers from across the grid competing in 5 heats.  The best 2 out of each heat advanced to the Main Event which will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 11am again in Costa Rica Sims Estate.
The event kicked off with our very own DJ Azu streaming over the waves as the large crowd of spectators gathered on the Peninsula Nicoya Sur sim directly to the east of the North surfing sim.  At most any time during the 3 to 4 hour event, there were at least 50 to 60 spectators, surfers and SLSA officials on hand to experience the event.  It was fun in the sun and the mood was quite exuberant!  After Azu wound down his stream, the crowd was treated to the sounds of Tonio Roffo, a long term Costa Rica Sims resident who keep the mood high with his mix of trance, electro, and house.

The competition was tight across the heats and our neighbors, Jac Mornington and Aldo Courtois were among the surfers attempting to advance to the Main Event.  While these guys just missed the cut, both still enjoyed the competition!  Check out the SLSA forums to see the final results and who will be competing next weekend.

It was a great day had by all.  The comments heard from the residents who joined the fun indicated that it was “awesome”, “amazing”, “well done”!   The SLSA officials added the following comments as well “best event in ages”, “seemed like old times”, and “the great mood remained throughout the day”.  Colleen Brennan, an SLSA Director added “ it  was the biggest, the most open, and most competitive SLSA competition ever!”
