A Message from Our Chief of Security

Hola Ticas and Ticos,

I am writing to welcome all the new Costa Rica Sims residents, offer my assistance, and  to address the Estates policies regarding privacy & security systems, particularly the use of land protection orbs.  The following excerpt is taken from the Estate’s Covenant:

  • Our estate is meant to allow everyone to fly, walk or sail freely through them. Residence in our sims is based on common sense practices. We strive to provide you with a fun, safe and pleasant environment. Since you do pay for your online time, you undoubtedly expect a nice, pleasant experience on the Second Life grid. You don't want to feel as if you are living in a prison. When you purchase a home in a real world environment you expect no less. You expect to be able to walk down the street, take your pets out and enjoy the views without someone or something knocking you for a loop. So Access Restrictions/Red Tape/Ban Lines are strictly prohibited.
  • We have created, with the help of other designers, a security orb for those of you who feel the need for greater security. However, devices such as this security orb that contain listening scripts and scanning scripts will contribute to lag. If all homes within a respective sim choose to install a security orb and have it running all the time, the lag produced by the scripts inside the orb will cause noticeable lag for all residents who live there. In any case, access should be granted to Costa Rica Sims Executive Team. Please remember that the security orbs are meant to only secure your home, not your entire property. One of the hallmarks of our Estate is that residents are free to fly, sail, horseback ride, surf, walk, etc...through properties without ban lines or security ejections. To facilitate securing only your home, we have included a meter so that you can measure your home. Remember to position yourself in the center of your home.
  • If we discover that a security orb has been set to protect an entire parcel and in doing so, it ejects other avatars who are walking, sailing, riding, flying, etc... or if it interferes with your neighbors being able to gain access to their parcels, your orb will be immediately removed and we will add a L$2,000 fine to your next tier payment.

Much thought and consideration has been placed in creating the Covenant.  Please take the time to read and familiarize yourselves with policies enacted.  I am pleased to say that non-compliance of these policies is indeed rare.  The best way to avoid any problems is to contact me for assistance when considering adding a security orb to your parcel.  I am always available to meet you, and offline im’s go to email.

Thank you all for your consideration and understanding when using security orbs.
