November 2008 Estate Status Report

Dear Residents & Friends,

Before I start with our monthly report on the status of the Estate, I would like to wish all of you a safe and joyous holiday season on behalf of all the members of the Executive Team. Now, this is going to be a long blog since we have many areas to cover, so go to your fridge get a six-pack of beer and bag of low-fat Doritos and tuck in for the ride.

New member of our Executive Team:

It gives me great pleasure to welcome Anz Malthus to our Executive Team as Associate Builder. Anz was the creator of our Airport and has many well known creations around the grid. He will be mainly focusing on additions to our shopping district.

Relocation of Residents and Conversion of Openspaces into Full Regions:

We are happy to say that all residents who were living on an openspace who desired to be relocated have been safely moved onto their new parcels. It was a very challenging task to move so many of you around, but with you patience, support, and understanding we were able to do it in a very short time frame. I would like to personally thank my amazing assistant and friend, Sunshine, who was instrumental in the relocation process. Additionally, I would also like to thank Rawly for his beautiful terraforming of the new full regions. Also, since most of the residents in our country regions, the Arenals, decided to move to a full region in order to avoid the tier increase, we have converted those openspaces into a full region. For those interested in horseback riding, the mountains to the south of the Laguna Arenal are perfect for that activity.

New Full Regions for Sale:

Our new full regions, which will not be impacted by Linden Lab’s tier increases next month, are Puntarenas 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9. We were able to make these regions some of the most lush and beautiful within our Estate with magnificent waterfalls, shipwrecks, and dense tropical vegetation. There are a few parcels still available for sale.

Land Referral Program:

We just introduced a new land referral program since many of the new residents that we get come to our Estate via word-of-mouth by other residents. Therefore, we thought it would only be fair to share a commission of the land sales with the person who referred a new resident to the Costa Rica Sims. The Estate is offering a 10% commission of the land sale price, so we encourage you to spread the word to your friends since this is an excellent way to earn some extra Lindens for the holidays.

Tier increase January 9, 2009 for Openspace/Homesteads residents:

Just a friendly reminder that in accordance with Linden Lab’s policies, the tier for Openspace/Homesteads will increase from the current 8.22L$ per prim to 9.88L$ per prim. This means for residents owning a parcel with 1,172 prims the new tier starting next month will be 11,580L$ per month.

For those of you wondering if you are living on an Openspace/Homestead region, it is quite easy to tell. All of our residential Openspace/Homestead regions start with the word “Pacifico.” So, if you region does not begin with that word, you are not impacted by the tier changes.

Changes to amenities within our Estate:

As stated on one of our previous blogs, we were discussing which amenities the Estate would have to let go due to the increase of tiers on Openspaces/Homesteads by Linden Lab. After careful consideration and input from residents, the Executive Team voted to remove the Airport. All of our other amenities: Shopping District, Rainforest, Arenal Volcano, Estate Yacht, Scuba Center, Surfing Areas, Whale Watching Area, Nude Beach, Rafting River Area, Hang Gliding Platform, Horse Farm, & La Cantina will remain for our residents and friends to enjoy.

Beginning in 2009, we have an array of events for our community. Because Openspaces/Homesteads were not designed to hold large events and starting next month will have an avatar limit of 20 per region, the Estate has purchased a full region with 15,000 prims to be used mainly for events. This region will also be available to lease on daily basis for shows, birthday parties, weddings, etc… and we will post more information as soon as we have the region up and running.

Our Shopping District:

We could not have been happier to welcome our newest mainstore to our Estate, Emery. Serjordan Bonetto and Sunami Beck have been long time friends and supporters of the Costa Rica Sims and their designs are known for glam rock, 80s, and chic. We would like to congratulate them for having an average of 10,000 traffic in their mainstore since their arrival.

On another note, Kal Rau is redesigning his mainstore and after taking a private peek I have to tell you that it looks amazing. We cannot wait to see the finished product.

In the next few days, you will be seeing some other changes to the shopping district. The main one will be moving the current designers that we have in the Laguna del Arenal region to La Fortuna 1. Many designers have expressed their desire to be closer to one another as a way to create a more intimate shopping experience. Also, we have welcomed some other new designers so make sure to pay a visit to our shopping district. The arrival of these new designers would not have been possible without the help of HarMonica Aabye, our commercial district coordinator, so kudos to her for bringing fresh looks to our Estate.

Additionally, I would like to explain why it is so important for residents to shop at the stores in our shopping district and to buy from our designers. First, it is one of the most beautiful and well designed shopping areas within SL and it brings a greater sense of realism to our community because what community can thrive without a shopping district. Secondly, it provides value to our Estate to have open waters around for recreation. Since not many Estates will be able to maintain open waters due to the increase in tiers by Linden Lab for Openspaces/Homesteads, it will be a luxury to have water for recreation in any Estate. Our regions Laguna del Arenal, Laguna Arenal, Alajuela 1, Alajuela 2, Alajuela 3, and so forth provide open waters for our Puntarenas regions. Once the market stabilizes itself this will convert into higher land values for properties with access to open waters.

Upcoming Events:

Some notable events coming this month are Miss Virtual World 2009, December Rezz Party, the Cookie Bear Treasure Hunt, and our Christmas Ball.

The Miss Virtual World 2009 Pageant will be on Saturday, December 6th at 10:30 am SLT. Our very own Miss Maxie Daviau will be representing Costa Rica in the pageant along with 17 other contestants who are competing for the crown. We wish Maxie good luck and look forward to seeing her bring home the title. Just like last year, this is the largest beauty pageant within SL and it is an event that you do not want to miss. If you plan to attend, please note that this is a black tie affair and get there early since the venue is guaranteed to fill up quickly. You can use the following slurls to gain access to the venue:

East Entrance

Our Rezz party for our December residents will be at our Estate Yacht located at Pacifico Central 4 with details to be announced soon.

Just in time for the holidays, our Cookie Bear Treasure Hunt will be later this month. This promises to be one of the largest treasure hunts within SL with over 60 prizes donated by the designers in our shopping district. It will cover all of our 5 regions devoted to the shopping district. Stay tuned for more details.

Our formal Christmas Ball will be held in the Estate Mansion located within the Alajuela region with the time also to be announced soon.

Welcoming New Residents:

Lastly, as usual, on behalf of the entire Costa Rica Sims community and the Executive Team, I would like to welcome our newest residents in November: Aleida, Anz, Aspen, Bjor, Casanova, Dalton, Demian, Ed, Florentine, Gabriella, Gigimarie, Joseph3, Jules, Kevin, Krise, Lazette, Marc, Maxwell, Novus, Pasha, Pilz, Prisqua, Shelby, Sixes, Stephen, Time, Tiny, Tygra & Wipster.

As we almost come to the close of 2008, we will have many wonderful things coming our way in 2009. Happy Holidays to all!

Love & Light,

GC
