Designer Interview: Bliss Beningborough - House of Beningborough

Hello everyone

This weekend’s designer showcase is the House of Beningborough by Bliss Beningborough.

The House of Beningborough is 3 floors of amazing designs, set in an opulent Art Deco style structure on none other than Rodeo Drive!!!

On entering the showroom you are struck by designs that are rich in texture, with incredibly intense and vibrant colours and the designs themselves range from the dramatic, to the romantic.  At HOB you can acquire outfits that epitomize glitzy glamour, sophistication and even chic casual.  Not forgetting in the month of love, wedding gowns, The Duchess of Cambridge being a stunning example of Bliss’s talent.

Not only are you able to purchase any number of dream outfits and gowns, but at HOB you can also avail yourself of model shapes and hair too.

I caught up with the ever busy and ultra-talented Bliss Beningborough.

Bliss thank you so much for taking time out of your incredibly busy schedule to chat to us.  So what brought you to Second Life?

I saw it on the news actually, a lady from America was flying over to marry her SL husband and my curiosity was piqued.  Once here I was hooked in no time !!

Tell us if you would, a bit about your time spent in SL so far?

Well in my time in SL I have been a model, I won the JCNY model awards and launched my own agency running shows initially for the Bellagio Hotel sim, then I went solo. I hosted shows for all the top designers of SL at the time and ran my own modeling agency.  I also launched my own magazine called MODEL but soon tired of all this, too much drama,  and re-invented myself as Bliss and started the learning process of how to design in SL, learning Photoshop and attending classes on building and creating as well as photography to enable me to design clothes here.

I have always had an artistic flair but I didn’t know I could design until I tried. A lesson to be learnt I think. Have a go, you don’t know what you are capable of until you try!!

I started with a small shop and in no time had a larger store which just got bigger and bigger until I moved to Rodeo Drive where I commissioned a builder to build my current main store in Art Deco style.

Where does your inspiration for your designs come from?

I am mainly inspired by fabrics, textures and shapes that I find in SL. I am sometimes inspired by RL but my most successful creations have been from simply finding a sculpt shape and playing with it to create something different. Rather than just doing day to day clothing, I like to create art in fashion.

How long does it take/what is the process you use to put a design together from conceptualization till you release it?

When I have an idea it comes together very quickly. A few days at most and it is complete. I am not one to spend a long time on something or I will get bored. If I cannot reproduce the idea in my head quickly I will soon move on to something else.

For your show on the Costa Rica Sims – how did you decided on what you were going to present, does the collection have a theme?

I don’t do themes. I hate creating to order I feel reined in by this.  I have to create what I want to do, so no themes. The outfits for the show are examples of my latest releases.

What are the future plans for the HOB brand?

I do not really have any plans as such. These days I just come here to design. It is an outlet for my creativity. So I plan to just continue what I’m doing and if people like it that is a bonus. I am presently tackling the new mesh but I think that still has a way to go as I find it restricting design wise, but it is always good to have a new medium to work with.

Bliss concluded:

I would just like to thank all concerned on the Costa Rica Sims of the Dream Seeker Estates for holding a show to showcase my designs; I am very honoured that you think I’m good enough to do so. I spend most of my time in my skybox designing and don’t really know what people think of what I do, so a big thanks to everyone concerned. I would also like to thank my manageress and Face of Beningborough, Amazon Silverweb, for her tireless work and dedication to the HOB Brand.

Now it is over to you folks to come along to watch what promises to be an outstanding designer showcase, which is being held on Saturday 11th February @ 12 noon SLT.
