October 2010 Estate Status Report

Hola Amigos,

In less than 60 days, we will be celebrating a new year. It is amazing how time flies when we are having fun. October was a month full of fantastic events and November will be as well. October brought us the opportunity to have two of our National Parks, Las Baulas and Palo Verde, be included in the Destination Guide, so please make sure to vote for our National Parks if you have a Facebook® account by clicking the photos below.

As you know from previous posts, Costa Rica Sims joined a few months ago the group known as FedEO (Federation Of Estate Owners), a group formed out of some of the biggest estates in Second Life®. The original idea and purpose for this group was to work together to have a stronger voice when reaching out to Linden Lab®, and to address issues we all agreed needed to be solved for the benefit of the entire SL™ community. Last week Costa Rica Sims, along with other FedEO members, resigned from the group. We found out that most of the Board of Directors elected to represent the entire group as a whole had some hidden agendas that were only benefiting them and not the entire FedEO group. It is really sad to see how even in a world made our of pixels power and greed can corrupt the people behind the avatar so easily.

In more positive news, in October we added two new members to the Costa Rica Sims Executive Team. As we prepare to launch a big surprise, we welcome DaisyLynn Morales and Danial Guisseas, our new Fashion & Society bloggers, so stay tuned for more information.

Just released is the fourth ad for our “Most Beautiful & Powerful Women” campaign, with another four amazing ladies that honor all of us by calling Costa Rica Sims their SL™ home. Once again we would like to thank Mikey Batriani for yet another fantastic photo shoot.

Now just like every other month, let’s recap most of the highlights that went around our beautiful estate during the month of October.

Notable news from Linden Lab®

Back To Basics Technology & Philip Linden Leaves As Interim CEO

Platform Updates

In October, FJ Linden posted the Back To Basics Technology that includes some of the progress that has been made in the platform, plus some upcoming changes as well. There are some interesting facts to read about reduced lag, faster texture loading, group limits to be raised to 40, and some other stuff. Did you know that there are 2 million teleports a day in SL™? Wow.

Philip Linden leaves Linden Lab® as interim CEO.

Took Philip Linden less than four months to decide it was time to leave, yet once again, the company he created. He posted a short message about how he perceives the company is doing and how the search now begins to find a new CEO.

Land Sales

In October, we added two new regions to our estate, Isla Tortugas, a full prim region, and Islas Tortuga. As usual, these regions sold in a matter of days, bringing the total landmass of our estate to 4,980,736 sqm. We closed October with an occupancy rate of 97.4%

Events

Fantastic events we had in October. Samantha Ohrberg, as always, did a splendid job! She also posted the new events schedule that includes all the new monthly events. We have also added a section to our web page and flickr® group called “Society.” Here you can see your photos if you attended one of our many monthly events.

Costa Rica Designers Showcase: House of Beningborough

There is no doubt that when it comes to high couture, Bliss Beningborough is one of the best!

This month’s show was full of elegant, elaborate, and extravagant designs. Many thanks to the Costa Rica Sims Productions Team for a great show! For those of you that missed the show, make sure to read Takeshi’s fabulous review.

October 2010 Influential: Miss Geryn Sloane

It is such an honor for all of us to have so many talented and well known residents as part of our community. We were truly sad to miss this month’s party. Geryn is not only a fabulous designer but also one of the most caring residents we know.

Her tribute party was Halloween themed and I must say buy looking at our flickr® photos that the costumes were really fantastic.

Like every other Influential, Geryn was interviewed by Takeshi. If you want to learn how this accomplished designer started her endless romance with the world of Second Life® fashion, please go to our “Fashion, Lifestyle & Society” section and look for “Influentials Interviews.”

October 2010 Rezz Days Party

This was another Halloween themed party hosted by two of our dearest residents, Miss Grayce Meredith & Mr. Gort6 Falta. We would like to give many thanks to this beautiful couple for hosting the party at their residence and creating such a elaborate setting for the party.

Upcoming  Events

Costa Rica Sims Building Classes

alt

Our wonderful Prim Professor, Mr. Clay Ellison  will be heading up building classes once again for Costa Rica Sims residents to hone their skills. The classes will start Tuesday, November 2nd, and will be taught every Tuesday for 6 weeks at 12 noon SLT. Each class will be about 1 hour or so. If you had been wanting to build and learn with a more personal approach, now is the time.

Costa Rica Sims First Annual Butterfly Ball

As you know in the past months, Costa Rica Sims residents and friends helped raised over 1 million lindens for the 'Susan G. Komen 3-day for the Cure." Below you will find the the transactions receipts.

alt alt

The idea of the Butterfly Ball came about when we thought that we should be helping The American Cancer Society all year long. Many of you may not know that breast cancer takes the life of one woman every 69 seconds. All over over the world, breast cancer affects women, men, their families, friends and neighbors.

This promises to be a wonderful event full of hope and love. We don't want to give away much of the surprise, but what we can tell you right now is that the 4 most beautiful women of Costa Rica Sims for the past four years have come together to raise awareness about this important issue that affect us all one way or the other. Samantha, our Events Manager, will be posting more information about this beautiful event in the coming days.  We hope that all of you will join us to raise awareness and funds to help fight and finally find the cure for breast cancer.
