February 2010 Estate Status Report

Hola Amigos!

So February is over. What a month full of mixed emotions. We were able to enjoy beautiful events, celebrating love and friendship, but we also lost one of our dearest friends and longtime residents, Geko Stoop, to cancer. At the end of this report, I will write a bit about this amazing soul that some of us knew and loved.

Let's recap everything that happend around our estate in this past month.

Costa Rica Sims Group Chat

Many of you have contacted me in recent weeks with your concerns about some of the language, topics, and unnecessary chat that happens in our group chat on a daily basis. Our group was created for the estate to communicate with the residents and friends about important estate related news. As the estate grew, we saw the group as a way for members of the community to get to know each other as well. Even thought we are all adults here, I also understand that some topics are better off discussed in private chat. Because of some recent conversations in the group chat that some of you have found insulting and unnecessary, some members of our community have decided to leave the group. Therefore for now on, we ask the residents and friends of the estate that use the group chat to please refrain from using language or topics that contain profanity, sexual references, and mature topics. In addition, derogatory chat towards individuals or groups based on their religious beliefs, sexual orientation, sex, gender, socioeonomic status, educational status, nationality, or disability will not be tolerated. If you have the need to talk about some topic that is not related to our community, you always have the option to open a private conference chat with your friends. We will add a piece to our covenant about the group chat later on this month.

Land Sales

In February, we ordered a homestead region for one of our residents that needed expand his land holdings. Just like in previous years around the same time we saw a small decrease in land sales in the month of February. Even so the estate closed February at 97.5% occupancy.

Events

Costa Rica Ladies' Society Second Annual Valentiene's Ball

What a beautiful event that was! Seeing all the ladies wearing gorgeous red dresses, with the exception of the new Chairwoman of the Board of the Costa Rica Ladies' Society club who looked stunning in white, made this event a real feast for the eyes.

This event will be one of this year's highlights for sure. It is good to see how many of our residents were able to attend and had a wonderful time.

Farewell to my little sister

Many of you know that recently we lost one of our dearest and long time residents to cancer. Geko Stoop arrived at the Costa Rica Sims in November 2007, when our estate had only 4 regions.  She would ride her horse for hours wearing nothing more that her long blond hair. I gave her the nick name of "The Lady Godiva of Second Life." We clicked right away and a few days later she bought her first piece of land within our estate and then some more and more and more. At one point she had 5 regions within our estate, plus 3 more next to our estate. Back in the early days of the Costa Rica Sims, it was because of her that our estate was able to expand at a larger pace than planned. She paid the tiers of her first two regions one year in advance, therefore giving the estate a cash flow that was used to purchase more regions.

She had many dreams here in SL, most of them were about creating different projects inside our estate that would require the help of her friends to manage. She was the owner of Rancho Pacifico Resort-Marina & Spa, the Nuptial Park and Club E-co. These projects were intended mostly to have her friends close to her at all times and to watch them enjoy their time in Second Life.

As time passed, we became real friends and each other's confidants. To me she was the little sister I never had, a caring soul that would go the extra mile to help anyone that would cross her path. She was beautiful inside and out, and was one of those rare human beings that would only see good in people. She was incapable of saying anything bad about anyone and even as she was struggling to fight her battle against cancer, she was always there for her friends. Even as her time on this earth was coming to an end she would put the people that she loved both in real life and Second Life before her.

She was blessed in many ways in her real life. Last year she was able to travel to my country, and while here she told me how much she had fallen in love with the forests and jungles of Costa Rica, and how wonderful would it be to live a simpler life. "It would be so cool to have a little cottage in the middle of the forest," she said. To honor her memory and to pay tribute to all she did for so many, including me, we will build for her that special forest. The Geko Stoop Memorial Forest will be a place for the ones that were blessed to call her their friend to gather and remember this amazing soul. It will also be a place for those wanting to raise awareness for cancer, but most of all it will place for anyone to enjoy, since that is what she would have wanted.

I have contacted who I consider the best people in their fields to help me bring this project to life. With their help we will make sure that her legacy will remain and that people will learn about how even in a virtual environment such as Second Life one person can make a difference in the lives of so many.

Finally like every other month I would like to welcome all the new residents that are now calling the Costa Rica Sims their Second Life home. Adian, Ananias, Apollo, Ariel, Baila, Camilla, Caribou, Carmen333, Carol, Ceasarus, Chinon, Dixy, DrFernando, Ellekirsten, Ernesto, Jimy, GJ, Karn, Lavender, Lea, LexiDare, Luc, Luz, Mona, Rory,  Sandyl, Smirky, Synthia, Sora, Sourire115, Tarod, Tondy, Tristen & Theron. Welcome home!

Love & Light,

Gian
